The Coastguard is issuing a warning to dog owners after a mystery white, fatty substance washed up on Port Erin beach.

Last year, several pets became ill after eating rancid fat that had washed ashore in South Wales - one animal died.

The Isle of Man Coastguard says it's advising the public 'as a precautionery measure' while the material is analysed.

It's not claimed that the substance found at Port Erin is the same as has been seen in Wales.

The white lard-like material is said to vary from round golf ball-sized chunks to bigger pieces around one foot square.

Coastguard teams have searched the beach and removed as much as they can. Pet owners should keep dogs on a lead and away from the fatty substance.
