The public are being reassured that there is no need for concern after a person on the Island contracted CJD.

Yesterday it was revealed there has been a case of Sporadic CJD – an extremely rare form of the disease which affects just one in a million people.

The Department of Health says it is not related to beef or cattle or any occupation, travel or leisure activity.

There are unconfirmed reports that the person involved - believed to be a woman - died last week. The Department of Health has refused to comment.
