Douglas council rubbish claims regarding tenants not paying rates

Douglas Council says it is simply not the case that its tenants don’t pay rates.
It says recent statements suggesting they are exempt are misleading and potentially inflammatory.
The council says no such exemption exists and tenants are required to pay rent and borough and water rates.
Councillor David Ashford has also rubbished suggestions that the level of rates charged to council tenants is lower than that paid by householders in the private sector.
