Douglas Council unhappy with tenancy proposals

Douglas Council has hit back at new plans to overhaul the social housing system – saying it doesn't support the latest proposals.

Last month the Department of Social Care revealed it was planning to bring in fixed-term tenancy agreements to those new to public sector housing as a way of ending council houses for life.

The Council has argued that the department has no legal right to impose such a measure.

Councillor Carol Malarkey revealed numerous tenants have expressed concern about the prospect of the two-year fixed terms:
