A Peel man who spent 10 days in a coma is returning home from Walton Hospital this evening.

Thirty-three-year-old Darryl McGeown sustained serious head injuries after an altercation outside a nightclub in Douglas four weeks ago.

The father of three was rushed to the Merseyside facility by air ambulance the same day as his life hung in the balance.

The rugby player and motorbike racer woke from his coma on Christmas Day and has remained in intensive care since.

Mike Sheeley organised a major fundraiser for Mr McGeown’s family shortly before Christmas, he says his friend is excited about coming home: (Play media file below)
