Local authority merger disputed

An Onchan MHK has slammed an idea to merge all of the local housing authorities on the Island.
Peter Karran says taking them out of local authority control would create too much bureaucracy for government.
It follows an on-going housing review which was started by the Department of Social Care earlier this year.
Social Care Minister Chris Robertshaw says the delivery of public sector housing by the 17 authorities presents significant challenges to those with acute housing needs.
Discussions about the idea are still progressing although Mr Karran believes it’s “nonsense”.
