A man from the Island who’s preparing to start the challenge of a lifetime today by climbing Mount Everest has admitted he’s now even more nervous.

65 year old Les Shires posted his thoughts on Facebook early this morning following news of a plane crash in Kathmandu which claimed the lives of seven Britons.

All on-board were en-route to the Mount Everest base camp.

In a post on the Men in Sheds page Les wrote “Plane crash at the airport in Kathmandu. Due to fly out later this morning, a bit nervous.”

Les is raising money for Men in Sheds – a project in Port Erin which provides retired men with the opportunity to carry out metalwork and woodwork in a social environment.
