Cars belonging to a Master Watchmaker who lived on the Isle of Man were taken to America to be shown before they were auctioned.
Horologist George Daniel’s collection of cars and motorcycles was sold through auction house Bonhams at the Goodward Festival of Speed at the end of last month.
It raised just short of £10 million with one of the cars – a rare British Bentley – sold for just over five million, making it the most expensive Bentley to ever be sold at public auction.
Chief executive of the Bonhams Group, Malcolm Barber, said careful consideration had gone into where the vehicles were sold and the promotion of the lots:
