The effects of a crash in the Tour de France appear to have impacted on Mark Cavendish.
He finished fifth in yesterday's stage suffering a rare defeat in a sprint finish.
Cav's tumble on Wednesday left him covered in cuts and bruises and with an injured finger, but he still a strong favourite for yesterday's race which was particularly suited to sprinters.
It was the Manxman's sprint rival Andre Griepel from Germany who crossed the line first.
