A protest over the smoking ban at the prison ended peacefully.

Staff at the Jurby facility were negotiating with around 40 inmates throughout yesterday afternoon after they refused to lock up.

The Isle of Man Prison became the first no smoking prison in Europe when it brought in the ban in March 2008.

Operations at the prison returned to normal at around 6.00pm.
