The man in charge of regeneration in Douglas is welcoming a report by retail expert Mary Portas.

Chris Pycroft from the Douglas Development Partnership says the findings of the Queen of Shops have started a much needed conversation on how to make the most of the high street.

Mr Pycroft says many of the recommendations in the report are already being implemented in Douglas, or are being considered for the future.

Ms Portas was particularly keen in reviving markets.

This is something which has already been seen in Douglas with the outdoor markets on North Quay and the Christmas Emporium in Castle Street.

After reviewing the report, the Partnership is now considering whether it should approach Government, asking for legislation to be brought in to help support the Island's town centres.
