Duty increased on strong beer

Taxes have been increased on high-strength beers in a bid to tackle problem drinking.

Tynwald has voted in favour the move today.

It's in line with measures introduced in the UK budget.

Extra duty will be charged on beers and lagers over 7.5% alcohol by volume.

There'll be reduced rates for low-alcohol beers under 2.8%.

Treasury Minister Eddie Teare brought the item to Tynwald this morning.[play media file below]
