Residents in Farmhill, Anagh Coar, Glen Vine and Crosby could be without water for several hours after a water main burst this morning.
Engineers have traced the burst to the Snugborough Trading Estate.
The pipe links from the Douglas water treatment works to the Braaid service reservoir.
The Isle of Man Water and Sewerage Authority is setting up water bowsers to provide an emergency supply for those affected.
Details of the locations should be available shortly.
Anyone with discoloured water is advised to run their cold tap until the water runs clear.
Further information is available from the Authority on 69 59 49.
