Former World Superbike champion and Island resident James Toseland is retiring from motorcycle racing.

It's reported the 30 year old has been told by doctors that a wrist injury he sustained in a crash earlier this year can't be completely fixed.

Toseland crashed at Aragon in Spain in March.

Although he continued to race, his badly broken wrist didn't heal properly.

He's been told the damage is irreparable and it's no longer safe for him to ride competitively.
