The Department of Social Care is to re-open a care facility in the south of the Island.

The Surby Unit in Southlands can house up to 12 residents.

The unit was previously used as an elderly mental infrim unit, but has been closed since 2009 when a new facility opened in Douglas.

The Department says it hopes the move will allow those from the south of the Island who need residential care to stay closer to their home.
