The application process for disabled parking badges and bus passes is being simplified to save the taxpayer money.

From August 1st, anyone applying to the Blue Badge Scheme and Disabled Persons Bus Pass scheme will no longer be required to visit their GP to prove they're eligible for the schemes.

The Department of Social Care will instead ask for proof of receipt of Social Security benefits relating to disability.

The Department believes this will save around £45,000 a year in administration costs.

It will also reduce the amount of time taken to apply for the passes.
