Police are thanking the public after a man was seriously injured in an incident on Athol Street.

The surrounding area was closed for much of yesterday, causing disruption to those who work in the area.

A 22 year old Douglas man is being held on suspicion of attempted murder.

The 61 year old victim needed surgery, and remains in a critical condition.

Officers say decisions to seal off areas are not taken lightly, and that they appreciate the impact this has on the public.
