A business owned by the Island's wealthiest resident has made an £88 million bid to buy Pinewood Shepperton Studios.

Peel Holdings, owned by John Whittaker, made the takeover approach yesterday.

The studios have been used for filming some of the world's most successful movies, including the James Bond and Harry Potter franchises.

Mr Whittaker's company owns John Lennon Airport and recently sold the Trafford Centre for £1.6 billion.
