The Chief Minister has denied that the Council of Ministers has ever directed the Attorney General to influence sentencing of criminals on the Island.

Onchan MHK Peter Karran asked Tony Brown how many times CoMin had asked the AG to intervene in sentencing for political reasons.

It follows the sentencing of advocate Jenny Holt over money laundering offences, for which the Attorney General had recommended an immediate custodial sentence.

Mr Brown told the House of Keys that this has never happened, and was amazed that Mr Karran would think otherwise [play clip]
