Dog owners are being warned to keep their pets on a lead during the lambing season.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says dogs shouldn't be let off their leads near Government hill lands or farmland from now until May.

DEFA says all breeds and sizes of dog can cause serious injury to ewes.

Legal proceedings may be taken against owners who don't control their dogs.
