A headteacher who has taught on-Island for over 20 years is to retire at the end of the current school year.

John Rhodes has been in charge at Ballacottier School since it opened in 1998.

He's also taught at Willaston and Fairfield Schools, after moving to the Island from Essex.

The Department of Education and Children says Mr Rhodes has been an enthusiastic and energetic headteacher.

An advert for his replacement will be placed next week.
