There have been calls for Manx owners to be found for the Steam Packet Company.

Michael MHK David Cannan believes off-Island owners have been largely responsible for the company operating at a loss.

The comments came after Chief Minister Tony Brown said it would be inappropriate to pay the Steam Packet a subsidy, adding that the Manx Government has no interest in buying the company.

The Steam Packet has indicated jobs could be at risk after rival firm Mezeron started a freight service from Douglas.

The Nautilus union organised a protest ahead of today's Tynwald.
