Ballaleece with the new fish passage

A new fish pass has been built at Ballaleece, which should improve salmon and trout stocks.

The weir there had been in a poor state of repair.

The fish will now be able to swim further upstream to their spawning areas.

The new fish passage, built in September, is now fully operational, and there have already been reports of salmon upstream of Ballaleece.
