Peel man guilty of affray following knife incident

A Peel man has been found guilty of affray following an incident involving a knife.

Two police officers were called out on June 10th to reports of a domestic disturbance in Peel.

One officer feared for his immediate safety after 41-year-old John Blanchard grabbed and held out a five and a half inch long kitchen knife.

The officer and his colleague, who had been speaking to a woman and 13-year-old child in the other room, struggled for five minutes to restrain Blanchard, eventually using PAVA spray.

Blanchard was found guilty following a two-day trial and will be sentenced at a later date.

Chief Constable Gary Roberts has awarded PCs Katrina Keeling and Jon Penman commendations for bravery for their roles in the incident.
