Public health director highlights childhood weight concerns

The Island's public health director says childhood weight issues are one of the greatest public challenges on the Isle of Man.

Dr Henrietta Ewart published her annual report today, which is titled Childhood Health Weight - the road to a better future.

Around a quarter of children on the Island are overweight or obese by the age of five, which is similar to figures in England.

Dr Ewart is calling for a change of the food environment, ensuring healthy food choices are available across the Island.

Dr Ewart also suggests children should be routinely measured in Year 6 as well as reception to track weight trends.
