DEFA says trout deaths won't hit local stocks

The Island's fishing authority says the death of 4500 rainbow trout at a local farm won't have an impact on reservoir stocks.

The fish at Glen Wyllin trout farm died in the early hours of Monday after someone entered the farm and switched off a compressor, starving the tanks of oxygen.

The fish were due to produce eggs for the global export market, with the majority of trout destined for Manx reservoirs held at Cornaa.

However, Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot described the incident as shocking and concerning, and urged anyone with relevant information to assist the police with their investigations.
