MLC voices concerns over "gutless" MHKs

A Member of the Legislative Council has described some the Island's MHKs as gutless wonders.

David Cretney is unhappy that the five recently elected MLCs were called to a meeting with the Chief Minister last week.

It's alleged some MHKs want the Legislative Council to progress the Abortion Reform Bill without too much scrutiny, claiming the Keys have already done enough work on the proposals.

Howard Quayle is understood to have called the meeting after some MHKs raised concerns about the new MLCs level of involvement.

Mr Cretney called for the identity of those who called the Chief Minister to be revealed, describing them as gutless wonders for not speaking to MLCs directly.

Even if the Legislative Council approves the Bill without further delays, it wouldn't be finalised until October and can't be promulgated until Tynwald Day next year.
