Tynwald to consider changes to planning system

Tynwald will consider changes to the Island's planning system later this month.

The Cabinet Office had put together an action plan to make the planning process quicker and more effective following a recent public consultation.

The proposals include introducing a levy to ensure development bring wider economic and social benefits, as well as allowing planning application to be submitted online.

If approved, the action plan will mean the Manx Government needs to amend the Town and Country Planning Act, which it will aim to be by October this year.

Other changes being considered include allowing the Cabinet Office to appoint a planning advisory body, faster processes for smaller telecoms improvements and new criteria for interest person status.
