MHK seeks Tynwald support for Sophia Goulden statue

An MHK will ask Tynwald to support the erection of a statue in memory of the mother of Emmeline Pankhurst.

Sophia Goulden was born in Laxey, and a group presented a petition on last Tynwald Day calling for a statue in the village.

Garff MHK Daphne Caine will ask Tynwald to note the petition and support the plans at this month's sitting of Tynwald.

Emmeline Pankhurst was a leader of the British suffragette movement, campaigning for women to have the right to vote in the United Kingdom.
