Police urge dog walkers to take care around lambs

Police are appealing for dog owners to keep their animals under control around sheep as lambing season gets underway.

Officers from the Western Neighbourhood Policing Team warns spring comes with a risk for animals' welfare, with some sheep being attacked, maimed or killed by dogs.

The police have previously urged dog walkers to be considerate when exercising their pets near pregnant sheep, and now want to ensure their lambs are kept safe as well.

Officers say they want everyone to enjoy the countryside, but that there needs to be respect for agricultural livestock and their environment.
