Police, OFT warn of advertising scam

Police and the Office of Fair Trading are urging businesses to be wary of cold callers offering advertising space.

Manx officers warn at least one local company has been targeted recently but a caller claiming they're selling adverts in a publication endorsed by the emergency services.

The OFT urged businesses not to agree to advertise in such publications without taking time to ensure the claims made by the caller are true.

The organisation also warns against taking calls when busy so that the salesperson is being given full attention, don't agree to anything on the phone just to get rid of the caller and ensure any agreement is fully read.

Any business that believes its lost money through a scam should contact their local police station.
