Crash leaves Cavendish with fractured rib

Manx cyclist Mark Cavendish was left with a broken rib after crashing on his return from a concussion.

The 32-year-old crashed at high speed during a team time trial at the Tirreno-Adriatico, leaving him with multiple cuts, soft tissue injuries to his knees, hips and hands and swelling to his face, as well as a rib fracture.

The injury makes him a doubt for the Commonwealth Games, which take place next month.

It comes just a couple of weeks after Cavendish suffered a concussion at the Tour of Abu Dhabi.
