Amendments to abortion time limit fail

An attempt to cut the time limit for terminations being proposed in the Abortion Reform Bill failed to gain support in the House of Keys.

Chris Robertshaw wanted to make changes to Alex Allinson's Bill, suggesting abortions on request be allowed up to 12 weeks into a pregnancy instead of 14, while those for serious health reasons only be allowed up to 21 weeks instead of 23.

A total of 60 amendments from a number of members were considered.

The considerations of clauses stage will continue in next week's sitting.
