Briefing on meat plant future in next three weeks

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture plans to brief to meat industry on the future of the Isle of Man Meat Plant in the next three weeks.

A new company has been established to run the facility on behalf of DEFA and the Fatstock Marketing Association.

DEFA confirmed the board will brief the industry in the coming weeks on the new buying policy and a marketing campaign.

A new plant manager and commercial manager are currently being recruited, while a formal transfer agreement is close to being finalised.

The Government previously sought a private firm to run the Island's only abbatoir, but no suitable operator came forward during the tender process.
