Scottish Fisheries Secretary relieved by king scallop changes

The Scottish Fisheries Secretary says the Isle of Man's decision to scrap a rule making vessels report to a Manx port is a "relief".

Fergus Ewing claims Scotland's coastal communities were detrimentally affected by the changes, which were brought in earlier this month.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle held talks with Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon last week, resulting in the rules being changes.

Dumfries and Galloway Council had expressed concerns over the amount of fuel that would be needed to report to a Manx port, as well as compromising the freshness of the catch.

The Island's fishing authority plans to suspend licences of any vessel or skipper caught misreporting their catch size.
