Fire crews remove hazardous materials after Freeport fire

Fire crews were called to tackle an incident involving hazardous materials at the Freeport in Ballasalla.

Officers from Castletown and Douglas attended the scene shortly after 3.30pm yesterday.

The incident started with a fire in a processing plant at the Freeport, with operatives managing to put the fire out before firefighters arrived.

However, the risk of a chemical reaction restarting the fire meant crews had to work for two hours to remove the hazardous materials and make the area safe.
