DHSC seeks additional £9.5m

The Department of Health and Social Care needs an extra £9.5m to fund its services until the end of March.

The Department will ask for the extra money at this month's sitting of Tynwald.

The DHSC says spending in the current financial year has exceeded the forecast, blaming the difficulty in recruiting staff and the cost of agency and bank staff.

A number of cost saving measures have been put in place by the Department in recent months such as ending its support for Meals on Wheels and a freeze on non-essential recruitment after needing an extra £11m last year.

Kate Beecroft resigned from her job as Health Minister yesterday.
