New weather warning system for Island's Met Office

A new weather warning system will be used on the Island from next year.

The Isle of Man Meteorological Office is updating the warnings it's used for the last 10 years following advances in technology.

It's expected the new technology will result in more yellow warnings and fewer amber warnings, as well as introducing a weather watch warning, which would be issued a few days in advance of adverse conditions.

Forecasters hope the new system will bring the Island in line with the system used by the UK Met Office, reducing confusion between warning issued in the Island and those reported in the UK.

The new weather warnings will be used from January 3rd.
