Bank warns of scammers targeting Manx customers

Natwest International is warning of a scam targeting Isle of Man residents through their mobile phones.

The smishing attack sends a text message which looks like a genuine message from the bank, asking the customer to call a fraud prevention number.

However, the number is for a fake call centre which then allows the fraudsters to acquire the caller's personal account details and use them to commit crimes.

Natwest is warning anyone who receives such a message to check the number they're being asked to call, and only to call the bank on a published number such as those on the bank's website or on a bank statement.

Those who receive the messages can send a copy for phishing@natwest.com.
