Commissioners urge DoI not to increase rent

One of the Island's local authorities doesn't think there should be any increase in rent for social housing tenants next year.

The Department of Infrastructure has been asking the local authorities for their views on a potential rent rise for the 2018-19 financial year.

Onchan District Commissioners believes an increase would cause real hardship for a number of tenants in the area, particularly those who rely on pensions and benefits.

The board warns the increased number of people relying on the Isle of Man Foodbank shows how many people are struggling to make ends meet.

Public sector rents increased by 2% last year.
