Charity urges dog owners to keep pets on leads near seals

A local animal charity is urging dog owners to keep their pets under control near seals.

The Manx Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has issued the reminder ahead of the Grey seals' mating season.

The species is protected under the Wildlife Act and shouldn't be disturbed.

The MSPCA warns approaching a newborn pup could cause the mother to abandon it, while dogs should be kept on leads while near seals.

Seal pups are often left alone for several hours, but anyone who believes they've spotted an abandoned pup is urged to contact the MSPCA rather than approach the animal themselves.
