Cavendish ruled out of Tour with broken shoulder

Mark Cavendish will miss the rest of the Tour de France after breaking his shoulder on the fourth stage of the race.

The Manx Missile suffered a heavy fall after colliding with green jersey rival Peter Sagan in the final metres of yesterday's stage.

Sagan, who is the current road world champion, was disqualified from the remainder of the Tour for causing the incident.

Cavendish suffered a fracture to the scapula, but there is no nerve damage and the injury won't require surgery.
