Lifeboat tows stricken yacht to safety

Douglas lifeboat was called out to help a yacht that got into difficulties heading into the port.

The vessel, which had four people on board, encountered problems around a mile off Douglas when part of the foresail system jammed.

The crew was unable to start the engine, which left the yacht drifting east.

By the time the lifeboat reached the yacht at 8.45pm last night, it had drifted a further three miles from shore, and had to be towed back to Battery Pier.

The coastguard was waiting to assist, while all those on board were unharmed.
