Inflation reaches highest level since May 2012

The Island's rate of inflation is at its highest level in nearly five years.

In March the Consumer Prices Index climbed from 1.9% to 2.2% - the highest figure since May 2012.

The Treasury says the jump is due to a number of external changes having an impact on the Island.

Oil and other fuels are over 40% more expensive than at this time last year, but the cost of sea travel, air travel and household consumables have all fallen.
