Teaching unions defend Manx pupils

A statement from a group of teaching unions says a report into the behaviour of pupils of Manx school is not a true reflection of young people on the Isle of Man.

The NASUWT released its findings from a survey of its members claiming over 80% of teachers on the Island had been verbally abused or threatened by children outside of school hours.

The NUT, ATL, NAHT and ASCL - who also represent teachers on the Isle of Man - jointly responded to the research, questioning the validity of the results.

The statement says the vast majority of children on the Island are a delight to work with.

The Department of Education and Children has also been critical of the findings.
