Roads police reveal support for telematic insurance

The Island's roads police have revealed almost two thirds of motorists think telematic insurance is a good idea for young drivers.

The Roads Policing Unit asked for feedback last week on using a device which would monitor the speed of 16-year-old newly-qualified drivers.

Officers asked whether parents of the youngest drivers would consider the insurance, which would result in the policy being cancelled if the teenage driver broke the speed limit three times.

65.8% of those who responded to the question said that they would choose it if the cost was the same as a standard policy.

The information will now be used by a working group which includes the police and insurance companies and brokers.
