DoI wants to remove 7,000 tonnes of silt from marina

The Department of Infrastructure wants to remove up to 7,000 tonnes of silt from Peel marina.

Minister Ray Harmer will set out plans for maintaining the marina over the next three years at this month's sitting of Tynwald.

The plans include dredging the marina in the spring to remove the material, which would result in the closure of some of the vessel berths in the port.

It's hoped the dredged material would be able to be disposed of at sea, but discussions are ongoing with the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.

Longer term plans include installing a silt trap to reduce future build-up, and the development of a problematic waste site for the future disposal of substances like marina silt.

Tynwald will be asked to vote on the proposals when it sits later this month.
