Fire service issues smoke alarm reminder

The Island's fire service is reminding the Manx public of the importance of having working smoke alarms fitted at home following a kitchen fire.

Crews that attended a callout to a kitchen fire in Union Mills last night say the early warning provided by the smoke alarm prevented major damage.

Officers spent just 30 minutes at the scene, with all damage confined to one room.

The Fire and Rescue Service says ensuring such alarms are fitted can reduce the impact of a fire as well as saving lives.
