Live fire training facility opens on Island

A new facility is being used to train the Island's firefighters by simulating real-life emergencies.

The live fire training facility allows members of the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service to work on life-saving skills in extreme heat, humidity, smoke and restricted visibility.

The fire service currently spends £50,000 per year sending crews off-Island for training, but it's hoped the facility will reduce the bill.

The project had funding approved by Tynwald last November and was installed last month at the rear of the Energy from Waste Plant on Richmond Hill.
