New endoscopy unit fully operational

The Department of Health and Social Care has confirmed the Island's new £1.9m Endoscopy Unit is now fully operational.

The facility opened at Noble's Hospital last month almost two years after work started on the site.

Over 3,500 endoscopies are performed at the hospital each year, screening for a variety of conditions affecting the throat, stomach and bowel.

Charity Bowel Cancer Isle of Man has provided funding to decorate and furnish the treatment rooms and reception, as well as a recovery room.

Endoscopies involve using a tube with a miniature camera to see inside the body.
